African Kente Cloth Collographs

Second graders were inspired to create kente cloth collographs inspired by

the book, The Spider Weaver, A Legend of Kente Cloth.
Many kente cloths are displayed in the front lobby!

Third Grade Handbuilt Clay Coil Pots

Beautiful clay, coil pots right out of the kiln created by third graders!

Kindergartners just got finished creating African style mudcloths using neutral colors! The patterns were made by stamping with various found objects like: forks, tops, beads, sponges, marker tops, clothespins and so much more. After stamping, students cut their printed papers and glued on top of the other strips. Students wove their strips together to create a more interesting pattern! I hung them all together as a class to create a even larger piece of artwork for our school to view!

Second Grade Clay Islands

Second graders created these amazing clay islands in December that were inspired by Gregor Turk. We viewed artwork by Gregor Turk, read books about islands, reviewed past knowledge about islands, looked at aerial views of islands on the internet and finally discussed different ways to create texture using clay! Each island is unique with trees, rivers, volcanos and even a sand beach! Students listened to steel drums playing while working for inspiration! Many islands are displayed in the media center, so go take a look!
